The Liebster Award

It's been a while since I've done a tag, but I just want to thank Shelleen from A Blushing Beauty Blog for nominating me for the Liebster Award!

Once you're nominated, here are the rules:

1. Thank who nominated you and answer the questions that were asked by your nominator.
2. Nominate 11 other bloggers.
3. Compile your own list of 11 questions for the tagged bloggers to answer.

Here are the following questions Shellen has asked, and here are my answers:

1. Who or what inspired you to start blogging?
I started blogging as a hobby and a way to express myself, especially after feeling really self-conscious from lupus and the side effects from taking prednisone. I had to take prednisone because I had high protein in my kidney (lupus nephritis), and I had a really bad flareup in 2013. Now I've been on and off of prednisone for a while, but this time, I had to go up to 80 mg, and I put on a lot of weight and had the puffiest, roundest, face ever. I hated it, I hated facing my classmates and relatives, and I especially hated being in pictures. I abhored when people would force me to get into the pictures when I refused. I learned about contouring and highlighting to make my face look somewhat slimmer. I've never felt good about the way I looked, but once I started experimenting and buying more makeup, my confidence took a whole new level. I wanted to write makeup reviews, get into the blogging community and sharing my struggles with lupus. Thus, I started this blog in August 2014.

2. If you could only visit one place in the world, where would it be?
If I hadn't already been to Italy, I would say there. But because I already went there, I really want to visit Japan. I've been wanting to go there since I was 12. Maybe we'll go for my 30th birthday in 2019?

3. What is your Holy Grail make up product you will always repurchase?
My L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation.

4. What do you use to take your blog pictures?
I switch off between my Nikon D5000 and my iPhone 6.

5. Give a tip to new bloggers.
Be yourself and enjoy blogging. You don't need to follow the crowd. You don't have to have a marble background (or in my case, a fuzzy white background which is the next best thing) to be considered a "proper blogger". If you like the aesthetic, then great! It's great to take inspiration from other bloggers and incorporate your own version into a post, but stay passionate and true to yourself and you will get far.

6. Would you rather be without lipstick or mascara?
Mascara! I am a lipstick fiend. I have a problem.

7. What is your greatest achievement so far?
Graduating university and getting my Bachelor's Degree despite the hurdles and setbacks (lupus and my dad's death), marrying the love of my life whom I've been with for over 8 years! Oh, and I just got offered for a full-time job that I've been interviewing for since mid-July. I literally got the call for the offer 7 hours ago. A year of suffering the job search has made it completely worth the wait!

8. If you could only ever buy one skincare product what would it be?
Moisturizer.

9. What are your current favourite TV shows?
Food shows like Chopped, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, or Ayesha's Home Kitchen. I also have a guilty pleasure for watching Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making the Team. Unfortunately, our TV guide don't have CMT (Country Music Television), so I have to buy an episode (or the whole series) on iTunes.

10. Do you prefer drugstore or high end make up?
It depends. I love high end makeup for the quality and packaging, but I recognize that there are some drugstore makeup that are just as good as high end. I love NYX and Wet n Wild for instance, and the L'Oreal True Match Lumi is my holy grail. A lot of the time you are mostly paying for the name and the packaging when it comes to high end.

11. Do you write blog posts first or take pictures first?
Take pictures first!

Thanks so much Shelleen for this post!

1. Velvet Blush
2. Mrs. Q Beauty

My questions for you guys are...

2. What scents do you lean towards? Floral, fruity, spicy, or earthy?

3. What would be your last meal on Earth?

4. Matte, satin, or glossy lips?

5. What makeup trend do you wish could just go away already?

6. What are the things about fall (autumn) you are looking forward to the most?

7. What books are you currently reading?

8. When writer's (or blogger's) block hits you, how do you get re-inspired?

9. How do you keep a consistent blogging schedule while managing other commitments such as work, family, relationships and other hobbies?

10. Say I give you a $500 gift card to Sephora. What would you buy?

11. What are your favorite blogging props?

  1. Thanks so much for the nomination! Congratulations on the job offer again, so happy for you! I've heard of prednisone but I honestly didn't know the dose goes up that high, I've heard about the side effects before too and it's not a nice thing to go through, I'm glad your recent results came back well. Well done on fighting through University too to get that degree, I can't imagine how tough it must have been for you x (Encase I don't get round to this, I'll just write some down here) I was really into makeup as a kid, you know trying on my Mum's lipsticks and so that's where it all began :) I hate that there hasn't been much choice in clothing, so I'm hoping there's some nice pieces come Autumn. I'm so bad in terms of consistency! I always leave things to the last minute, and I've got so much to fit in before the end of Summer. xx

    1. Yep, prednisone is a steroid that many lupus patients have to take. It does help heal joint pain and suppress other organs that are flaring up but it has terrible side effects Thank you so much :)

  6. Thank you for the nomination and congrats on the job! I relate to you on the reason you started blogging. What pushed me to start beauty blogging was my huge insecurity with something called a venus malformation. Most people get them on their arms or legs, but I happened to get mine on my face, so yay for me, lol. It's always cool to see how beauty & makeup affects us all though!
