Heal your lips with Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

With my chronically dry lips, I am always on the search on the hunt for finding lip balms, treatments and oils that would heal and moisturize my lips and help make applying lipstick a lot easier. Believe me when I say that I have tried just about everything: Maybelline Baby Lips, Carmex, Aquaphor, Fresh lip balms, EOS, Glossier Balm Dotcoms, Chapsticks, Bite Agave Masks, Vaseline...you name it.

I've expressed how much I love(d) the Glossier Mint Balm Dotcom, but after a while it seemed to not cut it for me anymore. My lips were starting to crack up again. Scrolling at the lip balms on the Sephora app, I was desparate. Then I came across the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, which had amazing reviews (averaged at 4.9). I knew I had to get it, this was probably going to be my next saving grace. I eventually ordered it from Amazon for $17 (at Sephora it was $20).

Laneige is a Korean beauty brand, known for its high-quality water ingredients to lock in extra moisture for your body and face. For the Lip Sleeping Mask, they use Moisture Wrap Technology™ and Berry Mix Complex™, which is described on the Sephora website (along with the ingredients):

Moisture Wrap™ Technology
Features a mineral network of moisture-rich beta-glucan to form an eight-hour time-release moisturizing layer over skin; locks in active ingredients and mineral water.

Berry Rich Complex™
Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants from a nutritious blend of raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, goji berries, and blueberries to soothe and soften, revealing smooth, supple lips.

When I first opened up my package to find this, I was shocked with how huge the jar was, at 0.7 oz. I would say it's 3 times the size of a regular Carmex jar. It does last for a long time though. Don't be like me and slab a thick amount on your lips: more is not more effective. I do it out of habit but I'm just trying to apply a thin layer so that I can make have it last longer. I am almost halfway through the jar and I've only had it for 3 weeks. It comes with a silicone applicator in a case that you can use for a thinner, precise application or you can use your fingers. I like to do both.

Even if the balm appears pink in the jar, it's actually clear and there is no color. I don't care as long as it does the job.

I have been wearing this (almost) every night before going to bed. On the first night, I noticed how supple my lips felt in the morning. It's like it sunk in my lips. Now don't get me wrong, my lips still flake a bit especially when I wear lipstick (now I know part of it is my lifestyle: I need to drink more water and eat less sodium), but my lips are nowhere near as bad as they used to be. I will always have dry lips because it's also a side effect from my medications, but I am really amazed with how much improvement I saw when it came to moisturizing my lips. When I skip a day of wearing this at night, I don't wake up with white lips from the dryness or my skin below my lower lip peeling off. My lips are still supple. Unlike most lip balms, this was meant to be worn overnight so that the moisture sinks in the crevices of your lips.

Now, when I feel like my mouth and lips are starting to parch up, I reach for this (when I'm at home) even during waking hours. Do not limit yourself to this while you're asleep. I find that using this as much as possible has helped heal and moisturize my lips significantly. When I'm not at home, I use the Hanalei Rose Lip Treatment from last month's ipsy glambag (which gives me a glossy pink tint) or the Glossier Mint Balm Dotcom.

Is this an instant miracle worker? No. But this has been way more effective than other lip balms or lip treatments in regards to healing my lips. I know that treating my lips must come from a more holistic standpoint: I must drink a lot more water (even if it's annoying to pee more), cut down on salty chips and Cheetos, break the habit of licking my lips and peeling off the skin (and to just gently exfoliate with a scrub). No matter how desert-dry your lips are, I know you can benefit from the Laneige Lip Mask. If it was able to help me (who has the driest lips and mouth in the world), it can totally help and heal you. $17 for this is reasonable considering the size of the jar and the amount of product you get: the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask is $26 and wasn't as effective for me. Once I run out, I will stock up for more on Amazon (or Sephora during the VIB sale in November). I love it that much and I highly recommend it for those who suffer from severely dry lips.

Have you heard of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask or any Laneige products?
What are your favorite lip balms or masks?

  1. Wow such a big jar, I've not heard of this brand before, definitely one to check out x
PS. I've nominated you for the Liebster Award here.

  2. I've read about this before but I wasn't sure if we could get in the UK. I just checked and I can! I'll definitely look into picking it up in the future (I've spent too much at the moment haha). Have you tried the Nuxe lip cream? That's the only one that was ever effective on me, it's unlike other lip balms and it lasts ages too x
