January 2017 ipsy Glambag: Metropolis

January 2017 ipsy Glambag: Metropolis, ipsy, january 2017 ipsy glambag

It's now the end of January and I still have yet to review the January 2017 ipsy Glambag. Well, now here I am!

This month's Glambag's theme is Metropolis. The bag is a light silver-tinted blue with mesh holes. Definitely not my favorite bag, especially compared to last month's fuzzy pink bag

But it's what's inside that counts, right? I love getting a balance of indie products and products I can find in the store. Let's dive right in!

Manna Kadar Cosmetics 3-in-1 Fantasy Eyeshadow, ipsy, january 2017 ipsy glam bag

Manna Kadar Cosmetics 3-in-1 Fantasy Eyeshadow
At first, I thought this rose gold beauty was a blush, until I read through my glambag list and it was advertised as an eyeshadow. I looked deeper into the product description, you can actually use it as an eyeshadow, blush, AND highlighter! I feel like this would be too dark for me to be a highlighter and it would work well for deeper skin tones. So I would use it as a blush or eyeshadow. It is a beautiful shade, and the only thing I strongly dislike is how incredibly difficult it is to open. The owner, Manna Kadar herself, created products with multi-usage in mind, and this is no exception.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream (Light Medium)
I used to have the Smashbox BB Cream before (from Macy's, except that the Beauty Advisor tested me to get Light Neutral), so getting this in my stash was a real treat. I've tried drugstore BB creams before getting this, and I love this better than the Tarte BB Cream. This gives me a medium coverage without it being heavy, uncomfortable and cakey. It evens my skin tone really well and hides my redness. On the days where I don't want to wear foundation but want to look awake, I turn to this. I am glad that ipsy knows me well enough to get me the light medium shade instead of light. Plus, it even has SPF 35! Because of that (and because of it's travel-size), I will be bringing this in my honeymoon beauty bag. I would only wear it for dinner date nights though, since we will be doing a lot of strenuous activities and tours (for those who don't know, I will be going to Mexico: so we will be swimming, visiting ancient ruins, etc.)

F.U.N Lacquer (TGIF)
F.U.N. Stands for Fabulously Unique Nail. I had the Spongebob FUN theme song stuck in my head. I received the shade in TGIF, a champagne gold shade. Usually, I love this shade and it's better than other nail polish shades I have received in past boxes. But I was pretty disappointed with how sheer it is. I applied a 2nd layer, and it some of the polish doesn't completely cover my nail beds. It's not my favorite, that's for sure. I do like the wide flat brush (like OPI's brush), making it easier to apply. Has anyone noticed that shimmer or metallic polishes are easier and cleaner to apply than cream polishes?  And that they last longer? Because that has been my experience.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Slanted Tweezers, The Vintage Cosmetic Company, January 2017 tipsy glambag

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Slanted Tweezers
I didn't have an eyebrow tweezer up until now, so I was happy to get this in my stash (a beautiful rose gold one at that!) I've heard of The Vintage Cosmetic Company before, and I know they are sold in Ulta and TJ Maxx. The slanted angle makes it really easy to tweeze hard-to-reach stray hairs. I haven't waxed my brows in a while, so I used this in a pinch.

purlisse, purlisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 mud mask + exfoliant, january 2017 ipsy glambag, ipsy

purlisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 Mud Mask + exfoliant
This mask has blue lotus seeds, bamboo, mushroom, white clay, and ginger to brighten, tighten, exfoliate and sooth your face. I have tried this and it did feel a bit grainy (it must be the seeds) and let it sit for 10 minutes). It gave me a tingly sensation the first few minutes, but once I was done, I noticed that it reduced the redness in my face.

Overall, I thought this bag was OK. My absolute favorite products were the Smashbox BB Cream and the Manna Kadar eyeshadow/blush/highlight (and even with that, I wasn't happy with the packaging). I was sorely disappointed with the F.U.N. lacquer shade. I know that The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer was in some of the glambags, and THANK GOODNESS that they didn't put it in mine since I already have it. I would be irritated if I didn't have the BB Cream. Here's to hoping that February's glambag will be better!

    1. Oh that's a tough choice. I would say my absolute favorite was the Tarte lip gloss I received last month here: http://floraful.blogspot.com/2016/12/december-2016-ipsy-glambag-carp-pm.html
