New blog: Hannah the Mad Dog

As I've talked about in my previous post, I will no longer be continuing blogging for Floraful. I felt like this blog has ran its course a LONG time ago. However, rather than quitting blogging altogether, I invite you to my new blog, Hannah the Mad Dog! I named it because "Mad Dog" was my dad's name for me, and as I was coming up with new names for this blog, it was the one that seemed to click the most. It is a more mature version of Floraful, and yes, there will still be mostly beauty topics. But I will also be talking about life with lupus (which is what I have always talked about here), art and graphic design tips/advice, books, fitness/health-related things, barely starting a career in my late 20s, married life, and my faith/relationship with God as a liberal Christian.

Thank you guys for sticking by me for the past 2-3 years here. I hope you can continue to follow along with me through this new journey. I love you guys and I can't wait to start anew with this new blog!

What's up with me?: Life Updates (Birthday, work, health, blogging)

It seems like I fell off the face of the blogging world for the past few weeks, which was surprising considering how diligent I was about posting 3-4 times a week. I know, I happens. But I was also feeling really "meh" about this blog lately (I didn't even post about my birthday or October beauty favorites!) So I just want to give you guys a quick update about basically everything that has happened while I took my little break, along with the future plans for Floraful.

Fall lipstick favorites: The Plums

fall lipsticks, berry lipsticks, plum lipsticks, wet n wild berry recognize, bellapierre burlesque, anastasia beverly hills craft, abh craft, nyx budapest, nyx copenhagen

This post covers the final series of my fall lipstick favorites: the plums, berries, purples, wines...whatever you want to call it!

Cool Patch Pumpkins: Pumpkin pickin' and hayridin'

Cool Patch Pumpkins, Cool Patch Pumpkins Dixon Ca, Dixon Corn Maze

Every year during the fall, Cecilio and I look forward to picking out pumpkins and carving them on Halloween (or the day before, whichever works with our schedule best).

October 2017 Boxycharm: Spellbound

October 2017 Boxycharm: Spellbound, October 2017 Boxycharm, Jonteblu Brown Sugar, Tarte Delish, Dr Brandt. Dermabrasion, Becca Prosecco Pop

Who likes to check their tracking obsessively once their orders have shipped? *raises hand* that's exactly how I feel when I get my monthly Boxycharm. I've tried multiple subscription beauty boxes and Boxycharm is the only one I can stick with, hands down.

NYX "In Your Element" Palette: Earth

NYX "In Your Element" Palette: Earth, NYX In Your Element Earth Palette, NYX In your Element, NYX In Your Element Palette

When I first saw the NYX "In Your Element" palettes released, I needed to have the "Earth" one. I loved the colors, but I couldn't justify spending $30 on them. That's about as much as a high end palette! Usually, some of the more expensive NYX palettes don't go over $20. However, Ulta had a 30% off sale for all NYX products, so I immediately snatched up this baby.

Fall lipstick favorites: The Browns

fall lipsticks, nyx dubai, nyx berlin, mented cosmetics nude la la, jordana cinnamon toast, mac del rio, maybelline coffee buzz

Here is my 2nd part of my Fall Lipstick Favorite series! If you missed it, this post lists my favorite red lipsticks for the fall. Right now, I will be talking about the brown lipsticks I love.

A random Ulta Haul

Ulta Haul, ABH Stevie, Essence Get Big Lashes, The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner, Soap and Glory Hand Food,Ulta Delta Shores Sacramento, Ulta Delta Shores

Uh oh. There's a new shopping center a few blocks away where I live, and guess what? Ulta is one of those stores in the strip mall. I have to avoid it like the plague, lest I spend my a chunk of my paycheck there. The good thing about it is that I don't have to drive 20-30 minutes for the closest one. This new Ulta is less than 10 minutes away. But because it finally opened (before a lot of the other stores), I decided to go check it out. Let's just say I was blown away with the set up and how huge, clean and brand spanking new it was.

50 Holiday blog topics (for the last quarter of the year)

50 Holiday blog topics, Christmas blog topics, holiday blog topics, blogmas, blogtober, thanksgiving blog topics, veterans day blog topics, black friday blog topics, small business saturday blog topics, giving tuesday blog topics

Laugh all you want about how stores were already selling Halloween merchandise in September in the US, but in the Philippines, Christmas starts in September (for all intents and purposes, all of the -"ber" months are included in Christmas season there). People there are already playing carols and decorating public places full of holiday regalia. The Philippines have the longest Christmas celebration in the world, with being the most Christian country in Asia (80% of the population is Catholic).

Now that we reached the last quarter of 2017 (October, November and December, damn did 2017 go by in a snap or what?!), the holidays are starting to loom over us. What better way to spread cheer in the blogosphere than to produce fun, creative holiday blog posts? I also love holiday blog posts because I get to take photos with little props to add some festivity. I like using candles, lights, ornaments, coffee, chocolate, ribbons, pinecones, and holly berries. So I came up with blog topics for you to write about if you're having writer's block during the holidays.

Fall lipstick favorites: The Reds

Fall lipstick favorites: The Reds, Kylie leo lip kit, kylie leo, kat von d project chimps, nyx madrid, nyx soft matte lip cream madrid, mac diva, mac retro, mented cosmetics foxy brown, mented foxy brown, fall lipsticks

One thing you should know about my is that I am a lipstick addict. I am too embarrassed to count how many I have. I tend to be very particular about foundation and I know other bloggers have at least 10 bottles, but that's just not me. But lipstick? Give me a bullet. I don't care if my lips are parched (though I am trying to drink more water to alleviate that problem), I still feel like having at least a tinted lip gloss completes the look on my face. I love going to fall and getting to wear my favorite lipsticks. I feel like fall lipsticks were made for me, my complexion and my style. I am not as intimidated to wear deeper shades.

Because I have SO many lipsticks (especially "fall"-type shades), I have decided to put my Fall lipstick favorites in a 3-part series: the reds, the browns, and the plums.

My Birthday Wishlist

As soon as October rolls around, I start to think about what I want for my birthday (which falls on the 26th). I seriously cannot believe I am turning 28. The idea of me being 30 in 2 years scares the crap out of me.

September Beauty Favorites

September has been a wonderful month for me.

Sunshine Blogger Award

I was nominated by Hayley from HayleyxMartin for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Go check out her blog guys, she is one of my favorite new bloggers and she's one of the nicest people in the blogosphere.

3 Kylie Nude Liquid Lipsticks for Tan Skin

3 Kylie Nude Liquid Lipsticks for Tan Skin, ginger lip kit, ginger lip kit on dark skin, rosie lip kit, rosie lip kit on dark skin, brown sugar lip kit, brown sugar lip kit on dark skin

If you've been reading my blog for a while you know how much I've struggled with finding the perfect nude lipstick shade for medium/tan skin. I always try to find different beauty products that would flatter WoC and inform my readers the best lipsticks, blushes, bronzers, etc. for my skin tone or deeper. I try to speak up about why the beauty industry is flawed in its lack of diversity and how they need to change. Thankfully, brands like Mented Cosmetics and Fenty Beauty are stepping up to the plate and filling in that need, something the mainstream beauty industry has refused to do for decades.

Are The Ordinary foundations that extraordinary?

The Ordinary, The Ordinary Foundation, The Ordinary Serum, The Ordinary Serum Foundation, The Ordinary Coverage, The Ordinary Coverage Foundation, The Ordinary 2.1Y

You've probably heard about the hype surrounding The Ordinary, and how they had a 10,000+ waitlist just to order the foundation. I rolled my eyes at the idea of waiting that long just for a foundation. It better be made of unicorn tears and make my face look like real-life Photoshop!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea vol. II Palette

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea vol. II Palette

I've been wanting to get this particular eyeshadow palette for a while, but I held off because of the mixed reviews. There were some complaints about it not being pigmented enough. When I got this goodie in the August Boxycharm, I was super thrilled!

September 2017 Boxycharm: BoxyBaddie

September 2017 Boxycharm: BoxyBaddie, BoxyBaddie, September 2017 Boxycharm

Despite Boxycharm having issues due to Hurricane Irma (their headquarters is located near Miami, but the warehouse is in Massachusetts), they were still able to ship out the boxes. I wouldn't have minded not getting this month's box because it's more important that everyone stayed safe when the storms hit. However, I did notice some charmers get their boxes, and I didn't get an shipping notification in the email. No tracking, nothing. When I checked my mailbox though, there it was! There have also been issues with the Postal Services due to the hurricane.

My wedding dress journey: from pin to win

David's Bridal, Oleg Cassini, David's Bridal Oleg Cassini, CWG658

Today marks 6 months of Cecilio and I being married! Wow, where did the time go? It felt like it's been forever, but with a blink of an eye it's been half a year. Because of today, and the fact that September is the most popular month to get married (June–October is peak wedding season where I live), I want to share with you guys my wedding dress process (from pinning to fitting to finding the perfect one), and I will share some tips for brides-to-be.

Fenty Beauty: Killawatt Highlighter and Gloss Bomb

Rihanna, Fenty Beauty, Fenty Beauty: Killawatt Highlighter and Gloss Bomb, Killawatt Highlighter, Killawatt Highlighter Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule, Gloss Bomb

Kim Kardashian may have broken the internet with her butt on the cover of Paper Magazine in 2014 and her contour sticks in 2017, but Rihanna SHATTERED IT it with her beauty line that released on September 8.

September 2017 ipsy Glambag: Like. A. Boss

My ipsy glambag came just in the nick of time, and I couldn't be happier, especially with the products I received this month!

Lip Gloss for Grown Ups: Brought to you by Mented Cosmetics

Dr. Roebuck's POLISH 2-in-1 Facial Scrub and Mask

Dr. Roebuck's POLISH 2-in-1 Facial Scrub and Mask

With my dry skin, I always need to exfoliate to slough off dead skin. I don't like to spend too much on skincare because I don't trust that it'll always work or give me the results I want. Here's a little profile on my skin: dry, dark circles and lines under my eyes, red on the nose, white heads on flaky dead skin on the sides of nose, tiny pores on cheeks, and smile lines (that get accentuated with foundation).

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in "Heat"

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Heat, Urban Decay Heat lipstick, UD Heat lipstick

It's getting hot in here with Urban Decay! Along with their every-so hyped up Naked Heat palette, they released 3 new lipsticks and 2 colored eyeliners as a part the Heat family.

Frida Kahlo x Missha: Perfect Cover Tension Pact

Frida Kahlo x Missha, Missha, cushion compact, Missha Perfect Cover Tension Pact, Missha Tension Pact, Missha cushion compact

I've never gotten too into the cushion compact craze. Like BB cream, it was popularized by the Koreans and then started taking over the Western beauty shelves. However, when I saw that Missha was releasing compacts with packaging designed with the late artist in mind, I knew I had to get my hands on it (there I go again...all about the packaging).

Photo Diary: Santa Cruz, CA

Santa Cruz, CA, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

It may be September, but no one is thinking about cardigans, scarves or boots in Northern California right now. Here in Sacramento, the temperature has been fluctuating between 100–110°F (37.7–43.3°C). Most people here love to go to the Bay Area when it gets that hot, but even SF had a 105° heatwave. The SF I know is windy, foggy, and sweater-weather inducing all year round.

My Anti-Wishlist (part 2): Beauty products I would never buy

I love seeing anti-wishlists these days. 2 years ago, I would've wanted to run to the store or be first at the online checkout cart to get the new latest release. I would've wandered around MAC and Sephora, not finding what I originally wanted but still purchasing something "just because I was there and needed to make my trip worth it". Even last year, my spending wasn't all that great (but it was much better than 2015). Being married and having my own place definitely plays a factor in how much I'm aware about my own spending habits, but having my new job will make it a lot more tempting to spend (it doesn't make it easier that a strip mall is opening up near our place in a few months, and Ulta is going to be one of the stores).

How I clean my makeup brushes

Every beauty junkie knows that cleaning makeup brushes is a pain in the ass. It's a necessary evil, because you don't want bacteria growing in your brushes. How gross is that? Also, using dirty brushes are one of the causes of skin breakouts.

August Beauty Favorites

August, like March, has been quite the whirlwind of a month for me, between helping my sister-in-laws move (Carmela is moving back home and got promoted, but she's commuting and now going to grad school online, and Sabina just moved to SF for university and is living in a dorm), not catching a break during weekends, getting a new car (a 2000 Mitsubishi Diamente) that had battery issues, undergoing interviews and finally getting hired.

Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo

I am always looking for different products to help aid with my hair woes: hair strands falling out, itchy scalp, fine hair, and dryness.

bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo

bareMinerals Translucent Powder Duo, bareMinerals Invisible Lights Translucent Powder Duo, translucent powder, bareminerals,

For the July Boxycharm, charmers received one of the following bareMinerals products: either Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo or the Prep Step Broad Spectrum SPF 50 lotion. I was hoping for the for the former, and lo and behold: that's what I received and I couldn't be happier!

The Liebster Award

It's been a while since I've done a tag, but I just want to thank Shelleen from A Blushing Beauty Blog for nominating me for the Liebster Award!

August 2017 Boxycharm: Beach Please

August 2017 Boxycharm: Beach Please, August 2017 Boxycharm, Boxycharm

Every time I get let down by my monthly ipsy glambags, at least I know that my Boxycharm makes up for it!

How to overcome discouragement from blogging

I try to keep this blog as happy as possible despite my issues, because who wants to be around people who are constantly negative and dragging you down? My friends in high school were complete downers and cynical about life (we also went through that emo rocker phase in the mid 2000s, but that's a different story), and it really messed with my psyche. But there is a burden in my heart that I want to open up about, and I know other people are going through the same feelings and I want to encourage and let you know that you're not alone.

August 2017 ipsy Glambag: Good Vibes Only

Another month, another beauty box (or in this case, a beauty bag). It's what I look forward to mid-month, and my ipsy glambag arrived right on the dot as it always does.

Heal your lips with Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

With my chronically dry lips, I am always on the search on the hunt for finding lip balms, treatments and oils that would heal and moisturize my lips and help make applying lipstick a lot easier. Believe me when I say that I have tried just about everything: Maybelline Baby Lips, Carmex, Aquaphor, Fresh lip balms, EOS, Glossier Balm Dotcoms, Chapsticks, Bite Agave Masks, name it.

Beauty Menu for a #naturalglow

I love having a glow to my face. Dewiness has always been something I've strived for, especially for my dry skin. When I bought my first foundation at MAC, I told the MUA that I wanted something with coverage and gave me dewy skin, she pointed me to the Face & Body Foundation.

The beauty box for women with chronic illness

There's nothing fun about having a chronic illness. Let's see: everyday, you have some sort of physical pain. You have to take your medications every single day (twice a day in my case), and sometimes you have to go through hoops with the pharmacy and your doctors just to get a refill on those meds. You have to spend money on medications (my keppra, losartan and plaquenil are only $8, but cellcept is $150 because it's not covered under my pharmacy), co-pay for appointments, and monthly medical bills. You also need to set aside an emergency fund in case if you get hospitalized. Might I mention that the medications that help you also give you undesirable side effects? Oh, and let's not forget that the feeling where you are sitting on life's sidelines, not always able to do what most "healthy" people can accomplish? Then, if you're on remission, there's always a chance that you can go back to flaring up. It's a never-ending cycle.

My favorite non-powder summer blushes

When it comes to summer beauty, I prefer wearing blushes that aren't in a powdered formula (cream, liquid, and gel). The only exception to that is the BECCA Luminous Blush in "Hibiscus Bloom" from the Chrissy Teigen Palette (Which I've been reaching for all summer).

How to edit phone blog photos using VSCO

It's not true that you need the most expensive DSLR to take amazing photos for your blog. In all of the photography classes I've taken, I've heard,"it's not about the camera". You can have the fanciest camera and still not know how to use the settings. In contrast, you can snap away with your phone camera and still get high quality photos.

Mented Cosmetics: lipsticks by and for Women of Color

Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette

Though neutral eyeshadows are hot in the 2010s, I can't seem to let go of bright colors.

July Beauty Favorites (and life+death updates)

Usually July is my one of my favorite months because there's so much fun things going on. This year though, my July was a bit boring: I spent 4th of July watching my younger sister while my mom and stepdad went out of town, and Cecilio and I were gonna go to his friends' house but he worked late and was too tired to go. And we didn't get to watch fireworks. Oh well, we'll spend many more 4th of Julys' together!

Summer Hot Pink Lip Edit

My love for bright, hot pink lipsticks knows no bounds. One of the reasons I look forward to warmer months is being able to wear them...although they can also be an alternative to red lips during Christmas party season, and do we really need to be tied down to seasons?

July 2017 Boxycharm: Cutie Pie

July 2017 Boxycharm: Cutie Pie, Blinc Electric Eyes Eyeshadow Palette, ColourPop Beeper, Bareminerals invisible light translucent powder duo, winkylux universal eyebrow pencil

I admit that I'm not the most patient person, so I was getting really antsy when Boxycharm sent me an email on the 5th that my box has shipped and the arrival date was pending for about a week and a half.  I kept wondering what the delay was about. I was obsessively checking my tracking everyday. Finally, I got the notice that it would arrive on the 21st! That's the longest I've waited for Boxycharm! But now that I have it, it feels like Christmas!

A Newlyweds' Apartment Wishlist

In my 27 years of existing, my 1-bedroom, 670 square-foot apartment is the smallest habitat I've ever lived in. But I have never been happier.

Bio-Oil First Impressions

To be honest, I have not used beauty oils all that much, with the exception of the Smashbox Primer Oil for my face. I know I have naturally dry skin all over my face and body, and I've struggled with more dryness since using our shower from our new apartment. The Soap & Glory Righteous Butter has been my savior for my skin.
